From the Beginning...
Welcome all who visit these pages! I look forward to your responses to my musings as I begin a travel adventure this fall, combining music and science, teaching and wonder, study and expression. The world and its humanity are ever changing, ever evolving, and in these pages I will post my small attempts to filter the marvel that we are, and make it visible through my eyes, ears, and mind. So onward...

And upward...
And upward indeed...having just returned from the 27th Table Mt Star Party, near Ellensburg, Washington, where 700 registrants with families, camping gear, and astonishing telescopes gather annually to gaze, marvel, study, and share the Universe with each other...www.tmspa.com (now find the History page, and then the Letter I wrote in 2003, typos yet to be fixed but oh well!)
So that's upward and will ever be a source of query and fascination for me. At our feet however, we have a planet 70% covered in water, and that will be a prime focus here: beginning Sept 27, 2007 I will teach a fully on-line Oceanography course for Shoreline Community College (SCC) one of the colleges where I was teaching for many years in Seattle. SCC (www.shoreline.edu) is a progressive community college always seeking to provide the best educational experiences for first and second year college students. It is my great pleasure (and no small honor!) that they approached me with this course, and I will be seeking oceanographic issues abroad to study and share with my students (west coast of Ireland, Mediterranean, Sea of Cortez, Caribbean, New Zealand coasts) from September 07 to March 08. So come back often for dispatches from these regions!
The other piece of this travel time is a musical one. As a harp player with a repertoire based in Celtic music, I seek roots. I also seek places to play where my own muse might manifest, as often happens on beaches, mountains, and meadows. Samples of past recordings of music can be found here: www.lindakhandro.com, but I'm very pleased to say that a third cd is in the works with my dear friends Ann (flutes) and Shiho (kotos) so watch for further announcements as we go!
Linda, Your travel plans excite me. As a fellow gypsy woman I look forward to traveling with you through your blog. Kate
AND, dear hearts, a new CD is in the finishing stages...harps, kotos, and flutes with my very special friends Shiho and Ann. Stay tuned, there will be a notice here and on the website of its release and a winter CD release party in the Seattle area.
ARRIVED IN EIRE! Got into Shannon, Ireland late afternoon Sept 5, rather worse for wear due to 30 hours with too little sleep (and Heathrow Airport, London, isn't much fun!) but I'm here! Now a good dinner, good sleep, and good breakfast has recharged the batteries so I'm off for some touristy sight-seeing in the city of Limerick...photos to come soon!
But I should mention that all last week I drove with my youngest daughter from Seattle, WA, to McAllen, TX, to help her immigrate to Mexico to be with her Mexican hubby...an unparalled opportunity to spend intimate time with my baby girl. The spectacular sky photo here precedes an even more spectacular sunset somewhere in New Mexico.
